Friday 2nd December
Learning Intention: We are learning to use BODMAS to solve equations in the correct order.
Group 1:
Watch Maths Online Video 1608, then work with a partner to solve a BODMAS icypole stick puzzle. (You could try timing yourself and then having another go to try and beat your time.)
Once you have done the icypole puzzle twice, continue with your Order of Operations Emoji colouring sheet.

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand the importance of the order of operations.
Learning Intention: We are learning to understand the importance of the order of operations.
How do we solve this sum? 12 + 4 x 5 – 4 = __
What would be the answer if we read it as:
The order in which we complete the operations makes a difference!
What would be the answer if we read it as:
- Twelve plus four, times five, minus four?
- Twelve, plus four times five, minus four?
- Twelve plus four, times five minus four?
The order in which we complete the operations makes a difference!
In your cooperative learning group, pick any year that does not have a zero in it (eg: 1983). Using only these four digits create a sum for each day of the month that equals that date, using your knowledge of BODMAS.
For example, if you chose 1983: 21st: 1 + 9 + 8 + 3 = 21 14th: 1 x 9 + (8-3) = 14 Before you start, discuss how you plan to tackle the task together as a group.

Tuesday 29th November
Learning Intention: We are learning to use BODMAS to solve equations in the correct order.
Group 1: with Miss Brown
Group 2: Complete task cards around the room. Start with any card - each answer tells you which card to solve next. Remember to show all your working out in your Maths book! If you answer them all correctly you should end up back at the card where you started.
When you finish, stick your recording sheet in your Maths book, and have a go at an icypole stick puzzle (with a partner please). Time yourselves solving the puzzle one time, then mix up the sticks, repeat it and try to beat your time.
If you finish that, you can start an Order of Operations Emoji colouring - Picture #2.

2. BODMAS with fractions: Read through the following information to revise four operations with fractions, then have a go at the BODMAS problems below.
Adding & subtracting fractions:
HOT TIP: You can only add or subtract if the denominators are the same! Use the Lowest Common Multiple to make equivalent fractions with the same denominator. |
Multiplying fractions:
HOT TIP: Multiply the numerators together, and multiply the denominators together! Dividing fractions:
HOT TIP: Keep, Change, Flip! |
3. BODMAS with decimals:
If you need to, revise the four operations with decimals:
Addition & subtraction of decimals
Multiplication with decimals
Division with decimals
Then complete these sums:
